Since I started professionally on stage at the age of 11, I didn’t need “real” until late high school - all my money was coming from being an actor.

My first Joe job ended terribly when I was fired from LULULEMON. And my last Joe job ended terribly when I was fired from WESTJET. Don’t blame me, the art will always come first. 🤭

Being a barista was my first job in Toronto in the early 2000’s - nothing better than sneaking out before close, enjoying a puff and eating the days leftover pastries amiright?

Waitressing kept me afloat in my 20s! Everything from server to bartender to coat-check to shooter girl to nightclub bartending to cater waiting at Trump Towers for 13+ hours at a time - it was a wild 10+ years that I’ll never forget. My last serving job also ended up with me getting fired after I was in a car accident, but they gave me a severance and then shut down after Covid. 🤭

I’ve been fired from a lot of joe jobs, whether it’s my audhd, justice sensitivity, hatred for the patriarchy, or because acting always came first - but I’ve never been fired from my art. Because THAT is what I’m meant to do and be doing.

Part two🫶🏼

The craziest part for me was what happened the night I truly felt safe in my nervous system for the first time in years.

I went to bed after foam rolling my legs and watching a documentary that triggered my CPTSD, as my husband gave me a hug before we fell asleep, he massaged a spot on my back that, combined with the foam rolling and triggering documentary, started a somatic kundalini awakening that lasted 3 hours.

My arm started shaking - I couldn’t stop it. And with each shake memories of trauma came flooding into my mind. Involuntarily. I couldn’t stop it. FOR THREE HOURS! I shook and shook and shook, from my arm to my legs to my torso and pelvis, replaying memories in my mind and rewriting their narrative from “I’m not safe” to “I’m safe” in present time, as all the trauma left my body.

Seriously, it was like I was possessed.

And then I woke up the next day like a shell of a person, with no identity, because my trauma HAD BEEN my identity. My body shook out everything that made me, me.

Perhaps not everyone will have that dramatic of a somatic release, but with safety and nervous system reset comes body sensations without cause - such as; shaking, yawning, sighing, tingling, warmth, heaviness, sudden deep exhales - this is good! This is stored survival energy discharging. Reiki can help with this too. Or a somatic practitioner.

What happens next might be off putting: a loss of motivation for old goals. Hustle might feel repulsive, achievement won’t hit the same, external validation loses meaning, and that’s ok, all you need is your own personal validation, and with that comes so much power.

You may start to finally feel clarity, It’ll be quiet, not loud.
You’ll become less reactive, youll engage in less chaos and arguments, you’ll feel genuine happiness and laughter, you’ll trust timing, and trust the universe. You’ll trust YOU.

I healed my nervous system and you can to.

From fight or flight to people pleasing and burnout, without the knowledge that I was even stuck in the first place.

In order to heal, there are a few things you must go through:

Anger - TRUE rage. Letting out everything you’ve held on to. Screaming, crying and anger at people who crossed boundaries. Have rage at yourself for tolerating things you never wanted to or should have.

Remove opinions - silence everyone around you so you can ask yourself who YOU are and what you want. For me, that meant turning off my story replies for over a year. Turning my phone on silent and not receiving or taking calls for over a year. In that silence I could feel allllll that rage. It allowed me to realize I don’t need to debate or defend the things I know to be true.

Crying and grief - Cry like a baby. Wail like a toddler. Let out the hurt, small inner child who was told to feel less. Cry for yourself, for loss, for ended relationships, for those you said goodbye to too soon. Cry every time you feel a wave of sadness. Stop holding it in. Cry for no reason. Just cry.

Question everything about yourself. “Why did I even want that?” “Why did I want that life for me?” “Do I even like this?” “WHAT DO I REALLY WANT WITHOUT ANYONE ELSE TELLING ME WHAT I SHOULD WANT?” Your old choices were made in survival mode!!!!

Allow emptiness - as your nervous system resets, you may feel apathetic, highs and lows, empty, flat or “blah.” Sit in it, feel how uncomfortable peace is.

Say no - it will feel wrong first, but that’s the first step in having boundaries that feel good and right for you. It’s not selfish and it’s not dangerous. I know I learnt safety through compliance, it’s safe to let that go now.

Fatigue, illness, exhaustion - you’re going to need rest as your system recalibrates. You may notice a flare up of sickness and autoimmune conditions as the body comes to a safer state - this is normal, this is good. This means the body is WORKING again rather than holding on to everything to keep you alive.

MUST DO’s!
1. Floating markets - 2 hours outside Bangkok, hire a private driver for the day and hit Na Satta and the Dragon Temple in the same day!
2. Na Satta Light Park, lights ignite at 5:30, but the park is open all day!
3. Wat Samphran or “the dragon temple” - led by female monks, make offerings to different deities on your way to the top. Meditate for 5 minutes and run the dragons chin for good fortune. Option to walk up or elevator up! 🙏🏼
4. Bag Sue vintage mall - 7 floors of insane vintage! Need I say more?
5. @akaraskyhanuman - incredible installations and sky bar overlooking all of Bangkok, plus live shows and incredible cocktails.
6. @lelestudio.bkk - treat yourself to a head spa. Relax as their clinicians treat your head and hair to massage and spa. An unreal experience!
7. @rajadamnern_stadium Muay Thai! The original Muay Thai stadium with interactive 360 video, audience jumbotron (kiss and karaoke cam!) and education on the spirituality that goes hand in hand with Muay Thai! A must see!

Colour or black and white?

Every time I return home to the west I feel like I’m in reverse ‘wizard of oz’, everything going from colour to grey scale… Life in South East Asia is just different. So peaceful. So spiritual. So aligned.

The west is so dark, the news so bleak, the pressures to be where I’m not, so loud. The anxiety to accomplish so much and hustle every day, so suffocating.

Even here, the same coffee I drank there, gives me anxiety when drinking it there, did not.

Just, something for me to keep thinking about. You know, because it’s not the year of the horse until February. It’s still the year of the snake, there’s still skin to be shed.

When sober-curious changes your life. ♥️ Happy 2 year soberversary to me.🍹

Was it terrifying at first? Yes. Was it isolating and lonely at first? Yes. But did I know deep down it was right for me? Yes.

I knew I would rather go through life sober believing I’m an addict, than to go through life drunk trying to convince myself that I’m not.

Two years sober from booze. It’s so much easier than I thought. 8 months fully sober from pot. It’s not as easy but I genuinely love life more, laugh more, am present more, less road rage more, less rage and anxiety in general… it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.
I’ve even started having dreams where I say to others, “I don’t drink.” And that is really crazy empowering!!!

With being sober, I can truly live up to my potential.
I could not do that while drinking and smoking.
So, I chose myself, my potential, and a future bigger
than I let myself feel before.

Sobriety means showing up for myself, feeling my emotions instead of trying to escape them. It means being unapologetically & authentically me.
Sobriety means peace.

Do you feel called to try some time off of drinking? Sobriety altogether?

Plus, I get to put all that un-drank cash toward things that set my soul on fire; like riding horses, travelling, luxury vintage, scuba diving…you get the idea. ♥️
